Born in Japan and shaped by global perspectives, the artist behind Light in Gold brings together centuries-old Japanese artistry and a deep sensitivity to contemporary spaces.
Having studied in France, the United Kingdom, and Norway, she gained exposure to European design philosophies and a universal sense of aesthetic harmony. But it was a quiet childhood moment that lit the original spark: her first encounter with Ogata Kōrin’s gold folding screens—works that shimmered with restraint and dignity—etched a lasting impression on her young mind.
Today, she creates modern gold panels using pure Kanazawa gold leaf and traditional raised gofun texture techniques, inspired by the quiet brilliance of classical Japanese screens. Her work explores the tension between light and shadow, silence and presence, ancient and modern.

Each sheet is created by skilled artisans who hammer gold into whisper-thin layers, one by one. We carefully select trusted makers whose leaf offers the finest quality and depth.

Raised Gofun – A Tradition of Light and Shadow
Raised gofun is a traditional Japanese painting technique, historically used to create sculptural textures that capture light and shadow.
Made from fine oyster shell powder, gofun is applied in multiple layers to form embossed surfaces—a delicate relief that glows and dims with the movement of light.
This method was famously used by Ogata Kōrin, one of the leading artists of the Edo period, who sculpted gofun into the voluminous petals of his iconic gold-screen paintings.
Inspired by that legacy, we reinterpret the technique to suit modern interiors—transforming each panel into a quiet play of texture, depth, and reflection.
