Wabi-sabi inspired gold art for serene interiors.

Quiet panels, lit with gold.

Gold. Tradition. Stillness.

Painting silence with gold, shaped by time and light.
Born in Japan and shaped by global perspectives, the artist behind Light in Gold brings together centuries-old Japanese artistry and a deep sensitivity to contemporary spaces. Having studied in France, the United Kingdom, and Norway, she gained exposure to European design philosophies and a universal sense of aesthetic harmony. But it was a quiet childhood moment that lit the original spark: her first encounter with Ogata Kōrin’s gold folding screens—works that shimmered with restraint and dignity—etched a lasting impression on her young mind. Today, she creates modern gold panels using pure Kanazawa gold leaf and traditional raised gofun texture techniques, inspired by the quiet brilliance of classical Japanese screens. Her work explores the tension between light and shadow, silence and presence, ancient and modern. Her art has been exhibited at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, and she has been internationally recognized by juried exhibitions including: +The Koyoten Exhibition (Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum) +"The Nature of Japan" Exhibition (Ueno Royal Museum, Tokyo) +"The Origin of Beauty" Exhibition (Ginza, Tokyo) +World Painting Grand Prize Exhibition (Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum) +Spotlight Magazine Cover Contest – Artistic Excellence Award (Circle Foundation for the Arts, France) +Artist of the Year 2023 – Artistic Excellence Award +Upward Gallery Awards – Honorable Mention across multiple seasons +Artwork delivery to Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) and permanent display at ACOPIA Gallery (Seoul) Each panel is a quiet affirmation: to live, to endure, and to illuminate the spaces we call home.

Sacred Forms, Universal Light – Global Patterns in Gold

Each gold panel at Light in Gold Studio is more than a decorative object— it is a quiet dialogue between traditions, cultures, and eras. Handcrafted in Japan using pure Kanazawa gold leaf and a traditional sculptural surface technique, these works incorporate global motifs with deep cultural resonance: sacred geometries from Asia and the Middle East, classical architectural flourishes from Europe, and symbolic patterns found in textiles, ceramics, and heritage arts across continents. Each panel is carefully composed to evoke universality through stillness—the way light lands on a carved line, the way shadows shift throughout the day, the way pattern becomes presence. From Japandi minimalism to modern urban interiors, these panels offer a touch of global serenity, anchored by Japanese precision and timeless gold. Designed for those who seek a space that is calm yet connected, modern yet meaningful. From Kyoto to New York, from history to now—each surface tells a global story in gold.

The Soft Light of Pure Gold

We use only pure gold leaf handcrafted in Kanazawa, a city with over 400 years of gold-making tradition in Japan. Each sheet is created by skilled artisans who hammer gold into whisper-thin layers, one by one. We carefully select trusted makers whose leaf offers the finest quality and depth. Unlike alloys, pure gold shines with a gentle, organic brilliance—subtle by day, quietly radiant by night. Its softness and glow bring timeless calm to every panel. True gold does not glare—it breathes.

Raised Gofun – A Tradition of Light and Shadow

Raised gofun is a traditional Japanese painting technique, historically used to create sculptural textures that capture light and shadow. Made from fine oyster shell powder, gofun is applied in multiple layers to form embossed surfaces—a delicate relief that glows and dims with the movement of light. This method was famously used by Ogata Kōrin, one of the leading artists of the Edo period, who sculpted gofun into the voluminous petals of his iconic gold-screen paintings. Inspired by that legacy, we reinterpret the technique to suit modern interiors—transforming each panel into a quiet play of texture, depth, and reflection. A whisper of tradition, shaped in light.

Reimagined Gold Leaf Art – Japanese Tradition Illuminating Modern Minimalism

We transform traditional Japanese goldwork into quiet expressions of modern elegance. Each panel blends raised gofun, pure Kanazawa gold leaf, and Rinpa-inspired harmony—crafted to bring depth, silence, and soft reflection to contemporary interiors. Rooted in centuries-old techniques yet reimagined for Japandi homes, urban sanctuaries, and minimalist spaces, these works offer more than decoration—they offer presence. This is gold leaf for those who seek silent beauty, timeless warmth, and a refined connection between past and present. Where tradition doesn’t resist modernity— it quietly illuminates it.

Made to Order – Handcrafted Gold Leaf Art with Timeless Intent

Crafted in silence, perfected with time—where gold reflects care before it shines.
Honor the pace of true craftsmanship. Each panel is made to order in Japan using natural wood or plaster, traditional raised gofun, and 24K Kanazawa gold leaf. Created over 2–3 weeks, this process lets texture breathe, light settle, and form evolve organically. More than decoration, this is tactile art—infused with stillness, intention, and timeless luxury, for serene homes and mindful collectors.
